Early life and career
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan the youngest son of American parents, Buko traveled the globe as a child. After living in Europe and Asia Buko temporarily settled in Las Vegas before returning to Ann Arbor in 1993. Once back in Michigan, Buko spent nearly every weekend at his grandmother's house in Detroit's Lincoln Park section as his pre-teen and adolescent years were riddled with behavioral problems. After moving out on his 18th birthday, Buko founded Hit-A-Lik Entertainment signing Dotoz and Young Frizz while creating music with Drew Money and Mikey Millions.
At 19 Buko moved to New York City in pursuit of rap music. Spotted at a Manhattan talent showcase in 2005 by K.D. Wilson (sister of Bryce Wilson - Czar Entertainment) Wilson arranged for Buko's first single "Runnin' Game" to be produced by Spot "Speez" Henchmen (King Day/Czar Entertainment).
In 2006 Buko moved to Purchase, NY to finish his B.A. in Media, Society & The Arts at The State University of New York. While at SUNY Buko created, produced, hosted and directed (the most popular program in the history of Purchase Television) The Charles Buko Show.
In 2007 Buko appeared on MTV's Total Request Live in a freestyle battle against Philadelphia rapper Tone Trump. Declared the winner by Cipha Sounds; youtube "fame" ensued.
In 2008 Buko demolished the competition in front of a 600 person crowd at Manhattanville College. The battle was judged by Boston MC Termanology. Buko became known for his freestyle ability and sardonic punchlines. He remains unbeaten during his professional career.
In 2009 Hit-A-Lik Vice President (and Chief Financial Officer) John O'Brien sponsored a collaborative album between Buko and Drew Money. Beginning work in Miami's South Beach studios - early 2009. The recordings created would become Buko's first original album release - The Charles Buko EP. The duo scored a minor radio hit with the single "Ride With A Pimp" and Buko also made waves with the street anthem "Trap Like Me", produced by Drew Money.
In 2010 Jack Appelt provided Garden City detectives with "accomplice testimony" incriminating Buko in a Cocaine transaction. Despite the case being a glaring and clear example of entrapment; Buko's legal cohorts (John O'Brien and Ron Eden) were either unwilling or too incompetent to represent him and he was subsequently incarcerated in Nassau County Jail. Since his incarceration Buko has been sober and focused solely on music. In 2012 Buko released the 4th mixtape (since his MTV-TRL appearance in 2006) #TrapIV - "The Memoir Of Carlos San Clamente"
The mixtape was unequivocally reviewed as Buko's best work. #TrapIV features (former) Roc-A-Fella super producer Just Blaze as well as American Idol's Erin Christine and is available now for free download at hitalik.com
From live guitar solos to live acapellas and freestyles that are actually freestyles (cmon now). He’ll steal hearts to make em stronger and he’ll yell things others wouldn’t even think of whispering.
On his 2nd album, he wants to surpass his 1st album, “Running Blindfolded”, by being much much louder. Hungry, loud, random, spontaneous, weird, skilled, fiery and grinning at anything that doubts him, keep your ears and minds open and check the streets of the Chi, you’ll feel him sooner or later…
