Jip Jop
Jip Jop
Jip Jop is more than just the fusing of two genres, jazz & hiphop. It is a concept, a mantra, and a unique, unified sound created by six dedicated musicians from all over the country. It is a melting pot of vibes, cultures, and ideals drawn from every generation since the 1950's. The band's live experience confronts the audience with the personality of their eccentric compositions and the largeness of a six piece band. With irreverent vocals injecting energy and flow, the horns gliding across colorful melodies, and the rhythm section providing a powerful hip-hop foundation, spectators quickly become absorbed by the infectious energy and dance-able grooves.

Jip Jop first started making music in 2006 when four musicians at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music converged with rapper/jazz enthusiast "Benny Nice" and began developing a brand new sound. After the addition of bassist Wooten in fall of 2007, Jip Jop began its movement by performing in fraternity houses, basements, and backyards, spreading word and building a dedicated fan base. By 2008, they had played every reputable venue Bloomington had to offer and by 2009, the band started migrating north to bring their sound to various parties and venues in Chicago, Indianapolis, and across the Midwest. Recently, Jip Jop has been the featured opening act for notable artists such as Wale, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Mike Posner, LMFAO and Shiny Toy Guns.

In August 2010 Jip Jop relocated to Chicago to begin the next leg of their journey, beginning with the release of their debut album, Important. The final two months of 2010 will include the release of Jip Jop does Kanye: the Mixtape as well as a short tour opening up for the Nappy Roots.
Bassel and The Super Naturals
Bassel and The Super Naturals
Bassel Al-Madani (originally from Ohio) has released over 5 studio productions independently since 2008. His Chicago ensemble formed soon after the release & supporting tour of “Submerged,” Bassel Al-Madani’s first full-length album in 2010.

Bassel’s sophomore effort, “Submerged,” was released in June 2010 at Used Kids Records in Columbus, Ohio. His first full-length album led to an array of interviews, write ups, and shows within the Midwest and Northeast regions. Shortly after the conclusion of his first four-week tour, Bassel was invited to perform at the Pelotonia opening ceremony with The Counting Crows & Augustana in the bike ride to end cancer.

Since his relocation to Chicago in the fall of 2010, Bassel’s style has taken on a fresh flavor combining his taste for indie-folk (Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens) and 60’s era soul music (Otis Redding, Al Green, The Temptations). He will spend the majority of 2012 collaborating with a reputable producer in Chicago, and performing around the country.
Murley Shertz
Murley Shertz
Based out of Chicago, Murley Shertz has been playing their own unique blend of rock, blues, and indie for crowds eager to hear great live music. Scott Burdsall, Ryan Curtis, Travis Hall and Dave Wilson continually strive to create a sound inspired by the characteristics of the Midwest and unique to Murley Shertz.

Recorded at I.V. Lab Studios and produced by Manny Sanchez (Umphrey's McGee, Patrick Stump), their new album, "Hayward," builds upon the themes of their previous studio effort, taking the distinctive sound of Murley Shertz to new heights. Intricate melodies and solid grooves lay the groundwork for the group's best work to date. Also featured on this album are Joe Hettinga on Piano, Rhodes, Organ, and Synth (Digital Tape Machine, Strange Arrangement) and Mike Racky on Pedal Steel Guitar. Now on iTunes: http://bit.ly/ij3Joo

The band’s previous studio release (2009’s Sold as we Sleep) has helped establish Murley Shertz as a staple of Chicago’s original music scene, bringing with it an increase in radio exposure and live performances. This 6-song EP is currently available on iTunes and at all Murley Shertz live shows.

Cobalt and the Hired Guns
Cobalt and the Hired Guns
Cobalt & the Hired Guns is about love and guts, energy and enthusiasm – refusing to pretend they aren’t having fun.

The repertoire for this five-piece from Chicago has been described as Americana, Folk Punk, Pop, or just Good Ol’ Fashioned Rock n’ Roll. They’ve been compared to The Hold Steady, The Clash, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, The Fratellis, Frightened Rabbit, Backyard Tire Fire, and “Wilco on Xanax covering The Clash”

Cobalt & the Hired Guns plays at venues and clubs all over Chicago, including The Metro, Schuba’s, Cubby Bear, Double Door and Subterranean with bands such as State Radio, I Fight Dragons, Josh Ritter, Baby Teeth, Dashboard Confessional and Big D and the Kids’ Table to name just a few.

In 2008 they released their first album, Jump the Fence, which saw the band getting serious about art and environmentalism – the album was a carbon neutral project.

The Double Single, recorded at CRC in 2009, is a two-song testimony of the band’s evolutionary jump from being a group of friends who like making music, to a team of talented musicians who have figured out exactly what their sound is about.

Their new full-length album is scheduled to drop in mid-late 2011 and promises to be their most energetic and musically dynamic project to date. With the addition of accordion, a full horn section (think soul-inspired backup horns), and other audible goodies, this will be the album to establish the band as a full-on rock force in Chicago … and maybe the world.
